1 What's in the Box
Every Printomatic 3D Pen set arrives ready to create. Before you begin, lay everything out and check you have:
- 1x Printomatic 3D Printing Pen
- USB charging cable
- Starter pack of PLA filament (assorted colors)
- Finger caps & cleaning tool
- Quick-start instruction card
2 Charging & Powering On
Connect the USB cable to your pen and any 5V power source (wall adapter, laptop, or power bank). A red light indicates charging; it turns green once fully charged.
Press and hold the power button for 2 seconds to turn the pen on. The display will light up and begin heating automatically.
3 Loading the Filament
Once the pen reaches temperature, insert a strand of PLA filament into the loading port at the back of the pen. Gently push until you feel the internal gear grip and pull it forward automatically.
Press the forward-feed button to start extrusion. Filament should begin flowing from the tip within a few seconds.
4 Setting the Temperature
Use the + and - buttons on the display to adjust temperature. For the included PLA filament, we recommend:
- 190°C – 210°C for smooth, steady flow
- Lower temperatures for fine detail work
- Slightly higher temperatures for faster, bolder strokes
5 Your First Stroke
Hold the pen like a regular marker at a slight angle. Press the feed button gently and move slowly across a flat surface or in the air to build shapes layer by layer.
Start with simple flat outlines before attempting freehand 3D shapes - this helps you get a feel for filament speed and cooling time.
6 Cleaning & Maintenance
To remove leftover filament, heat the pen to its working temperature, reverse-feed to retract the strand, then gently pull it out. Use the included cleaning tool to clear any residue from the nozzle.
Store your pen upright in a cool, dry place when not in use.
7 Safety Tips
- The nozzle gets hot during use - always attach the finger cap when handing the pen to children.
- Never touch the metal tip directly while the pen is powered on.
- Use in a well-ventilated area and keep away from flammable materials.
- Adult supervision is recommended for children under 12.
8 Troubleshooting
- Filament isn't feeding: Check the temperature has been reached and the strand is inserted straight.
- Clogged nozzle: Reheat and reverse-feed to clear, then try reloading.
- Pen won't turn on: Charge for at least 30 minutes and try a different USB cable or power source.
